Petition started: Transparency Needed from the Lake Worth Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA)

Main Point 1: Ensure the provision of suitable public information services concerning all aspects of the redevelopment program such as radio and newspaper reporting as well as neighborhood and civic organization meetings.

Main Point 2: Work with area residents, property owners, and businesses to establish channels of communication that foster support for the redevelopment effort and facilitate program implementation.

The Fifteenth Circuit Court for Palm Beach County acknowledged receipt of a Notice of Appeal

Tom Conboy v. the City of Lake Worth filed by Attorney Ralf Brookes Esq., to the Lake Worth Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) application to demolish and/or relocate 10 contributing and non-contributing residential structures within the Historic Old Town Commercial District in the heart of the city’s downtown.

CRA orders demolition of Historic Buildings

Based on the technicality that the residential structures had not yet been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the CRA ordered its contractor to proceed with demolition of the pair of historic buildings.

The City Commission denied the appeal despite many protestations by passionate residents in a standing room only crowd in the City Commission Chambers.

The city’s Historic Resources Preservation Board (HRPB) approved that CRA application by a 5 to 2 vote

Nearly 19 years to the day the Historic Old Town Commercial District was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
